​Optcal  Sculptor

1993年より制作活動を開始。

一貫して、人類が世界を理解しようとしてきた軌跡をテーマに、神話、音楽、数学、化学、宇宙観、思想など、人間が積み重ねてきた知の構造を探求している。

絵画制作を経て、2011年より光学作品の制作を開始。2019年には表現を根本から見直し、従来のステンドグラス技法を離れ、鍛金、彫金、七宝、金属パティーナ、積層ガラスなど複数の工芸技法を独自に統合した

「光学彫刻」の制作へ移行した。

作品は、金属・ガラス・光学構造によって、見るという行為そのものを作品体験へと変換することを試みている。

光の中に立ち現れる世界は、混沌と秩序、時間と記憶、神話と科学が重なり合う、人類の知の風景として構成されている。

現在、東京のアトリエで制作。工芸と現代美術の領域を横断する独自の表現として活動を続けている。

Biography

Mariko Matsumiya began her artistic practice in 1993.

Since the outset of her career, she has consistently explored humanity's enduring search to understand the world. Drawing upon mythology, music, mathematics, chemistry, cosmology, and the history of ideas, her work investigates the layered structures of human knowledge and perception.

After years devoted to painting, she began creating optical works in 2011. In 2019, she fundamentally redefined her practice, moving beyond stained-glass techniques to develop a unique form of Optical Sculpture that integrates forged metal, metal engraving, cloisonné enamel, metal patination, and laminated glass.

Her works transform the act of looking into an active experience. Through the interaction of metal, glass, and optical structures, light reveals worlds where chaos and order, memory and time, mythology and science coexist as layered landscapes of human understanding.
